In the Omsk region, milk consumption and production are growing

Since the beginning of the year, dairy production in the Omsk region has increased by more than 7%. This growth affects almost all categories of dairy products: whole milk, butter, cheese, ice cream, and others. Experts link this trend primarily to rising consumer demand. According to statistics, over the past three years the region has shown steady growth in milk consumption. Today, an average resident of Omsk consumes 357 liters of milk per year, while the national average is 242 liters. Within the Siberian Federal District, the Omsk region ranks second in consumption volume, just slightly behind Bashkortostan.

The level of consumption depends in part on the price of the product. The Omsk region consistently ranks among the three regions of Western Siberia where milk is the most affordable. In Omsk, the average price per liter is 23 rubles, compared to more than 26 rubles in Novosibirsk and over 25 rubles in Tyumen.

This is the result of systematic efforts by the regional government to stabilize prices for socially important food products. The work is well coordinated both with retailers and with producers who are introducing equipment that helps reduce the final cost of products for consumers. For example, the company “Wimm-Bill-Dann” invested about 100 thousand dollars in a new ELECSTER OYJ production line for pasteurized milk and kefir in economical soft packaging - the “finpak” pouch. The wholesale price of products in this packaging is 25 percent lower than in Tetra Pak.

According to the company, as production needs increase, the volume of milk purchases from farms in the Omsk region will also grow - especially relevant in summer, when agricultural producers expand output. The company has not yet disclosed specific figures, noting that sales of the new products have only just begun and demand is still being evaluated.
